The aim of the OSME Regional List (ORL) is to provide a definitive list of bird species that have been recorded in the OSME Region. This consultation draft is a first step towards that goal, and to this end we* would welcome any comments, corrections and suggestions to improve it. A subsequent goal is the development of a country-by-country checklist for the OSME Region.

For ease of reference, the draft list is in three sections (PDF documents): Non-passerines, Passerines and Hypothetical (species that are unproven and those that are unlikely to occur [and some perhaps that are both]). However, before you examine the ORL, we suggest that you read its Ornithological basis, and the Explanation of the ORL.

In the preparation of the draft ORL, we acknowledge here the help freely given and the interest from so many people from throughout the region and from the ornithological world - most names appear in the ORL sections or in their reference lists. If you have been omitted, we apologise, but do let us* know because we will be providing a comprehensive acknowledgement later. The Ornithological basis provides the rationale for the Order, Sequence and Nomenclature adopted in the ORL.
