What does OSME do?


OSME
encourages
birdwatchers
  • to birdwatch in the region
  • to participate in surveys
  • to assist others with research and conservation in the region

 


OSME
promotes
  • the standardised recording of bird observations
  • collaboration with local bird conservation groups
  • projects through a conservation & research fund - over 50 ornithological projects supported

 


OSME
acts by
  • bringing together knowledge of the region's birdlife
  • publishing a wide range of papers in its journal Sandgrouse twice a year for its members
  • holding meetings where guest speakers are invited to provide new perspectives on ornithology in the region
  • contributing to the study and protection of Important Bird Areas in the region


OSME is run entirely by volunteers and is the only Ornithological Society active in, and covering, the whole of the Middle East region and the Caucasus and central Asia.

With members in over 40 countries, OSME provides a unique forum for exchange of information and ideas.
