An impressive fall of migrants occurred on the morning of 8 May. In three hours one observer recorded the following in a normally quiet area near Doha: at least 45 European Bee-eaters Merops apiaster, three Rufous Bush-chats Cercotrichas galactotes, a Grasshopper Warbler Locustella naevia, two Sedge Warblers Acrocephalus schoenobaenus, four Olivaceous Warblers Hippolais pallida, an Upcher’s Warbler H. languida, three Barred Warblers Sylvia nisoria, five Lesser Whitethroats S. curruca, at least twelve Common Whitethroats S. communis, at least 50 Willow Warblers Phylloscpous trochilus, 20 Chiffchaffs P. collybita, at least ten Spotted Flycatchers Muscicapa striata, more than ten Isabelline Shrikes Lanius isabellinus and 15 Red-backed Shrikes L. collurio, two Lesser Grey Shrikes L. minor a Woodchat Shrike L. senator and a Black Redstart Phoenicurus ochruros. Everything passed through quite quickly and three days later it was very quiet again.
